Quilt Finishes 2024

My work in 2024 was exploratory as usual, but also taken up by months of preparation for my new crafty class on Contemporary Stained Glass Quilting  Many class projects are shown below.

I also spent some weeks preparing for my exhibit at The Texas Quilt Museum which has just closed. Seeing it and speaking there was a highlight of my year, for sure.

Another highlight was creating my "Soldier Boy" for the Cherrywood Poppy Challenge.
Viewng all the Poppy quilts together at the Houston Quilt Festival was a very moving experience.

Travel last spring to Uzbekistan to study their textile traditions has led me deeper into my quest to combine international textiles in quilts. With some side forays here and there, that will be my focus moving forward. Here's to a productive and exploratory year in 2025!

This flannel quilt was made for Quilts for Cops .
Check out their website to see the great work they do!

This is a hybrid quilt, combinig antique textiles and embroidery on Pendleton wool. It still needs to be quilted, when I can figure out how! It's all basted and waiting....

My "Soldier Boy: Every Mother's Son". I used needlefelted silk and bamboo fibers in the Cherrywood cottons, and my stained glass technique to support the vibe. I was so happy he was Honorably Mentioned!

  "

"Home Sweet Home" was a mishmash of collage, piecing, stained glass lettering, embellishment, and quilting. I listened to The Secret Garden on Audible as I worked and it was the perfect soundtrack.

My goal for the class was to teach how many variations there can be using my simple stained glass leading method. Have a look....  The last photo, the leaf vine, is the class project.

Once the filming was completed in mid September, I needed to play without too much forethought! I used textiles and techniques from all over the world and all over my quilting history, too.

This fun picture is of all the quilts that would be boxed up and shipped to the museum.

And here they are, so brilliantly hung, all together.  Deepest thanks to all involved in this wonderful endeavor.

Thanks for stopping by here....and happy sewing in 2025!
