It was cold gathering them, and I was dodging raindrops...but the first blooms are opening in the yard and I wanted to share them with all my sister Persephones in the white winterland....
Helebore, viburnum, forsythia, daffodil, violet, and one sole vinca....how they gladden the heart!
I cant even imagine flowers blooming in February. It was 12 degrees this morning on my way to work.
ReplyDeleteA funny story for you... We lived in very northern California (near Mt. Shasta) until I was 10 and then we moved to South Dakota. As a young girl I always thought of my birthday at the very end of March as being in the spring/summer...until we moved to SD. My first birthday after we moved, I think we had a blizzard and over 12inches of snow.
Maybe someday I will move back to a more temperate climate.

ReplyDeleteWow, Allie, I can't believe how much more you have in bloom than we do, and I thought we were far ahead of normal. A couple hundred miles makes a difference, I guess!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful arrangement and so early too. We have an annual tulip festival in April and this year we may celebrate without tulips because they are all breaking ground now. LOL
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so dead here-we don't even have snow to cover the brown ground. Pretty bleak with brown palm trees too--it's going to be an expensive spring replacing landscaping from the freezes.

Allie the flowers are beautiful. The way you have them arranged look like a painting. I think you have more blooming there then we have in Florida. It has been in the 50's for over a week and more to come. Freezing some places at night but still better then the snow up north.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the hope of Spring to come Allie. The first time I visited WA state, I was amazed to see philodendron and other tropical plants growing in the gardens in the Seattle area.

ReplyDeleteMother Nature really knew what She was doing when She created flowers. I love wildflowers and the California Poppies are just starting to pop up on roadsides everywhere. Soon the hills will be painted with streaks of orange. And citron yellow from the mustard, and soft blue from the lupine. Spring is coming!!

ReplyDeleteAustin has been gloomy and freezing for weeks, and I can't imagine Tallahassee having snow - wish I were there with my son! Those flowers are gorgeous - now it's time to replicate them on a quilt block.
