Vintage CQ...Flower #13

Harvest, harvest, harvest! Not much time for sewing...

The plethora of bounty has caused some consternation in the kitchen...my counter space was shrinking to nothing with all the gizmos, gadgets, piles of veggies, cutting boards, etc. So I asked the Head Carpenter to help me solve the problem, and I am thrilled with my fifteen dollar remodel.

As you can see, our kitchen is a time capsule of the 1970's, when it was built. Updating it has not exactly been a priority...how about that light fixture in the ceiling? You should see the one in the hallway....oh my gosh....it is so ugly it is kind of beautiful....
But look at my new appliance barn! And all that new counter space!! I am one happy chappy.

Vintage Flower #13 came about when I was tidying up the sewing room and found a few scraps of pink wired ribbon....

It was inspired by morning glories...

Hope you all are having a wonderful week-end.... ;-)

  2. What a clever fix for all thos awkward things. I have them in cupboards but all over the place. Would be nice to have them in one spot. Good for Robert.

The flower is pretty and it is amazing how the black sets them all off.

I am going to try the large punchneedle this afternoon and will email you privately.

    Hugs

  3. Hi Allie, Your kitchen looks very much like mine, also built in the 70s. What a fabulous creation your DH made for you! And your new block is perfect too. Enjoy your day.

  4. More counter space is always a good thing. How wonderful to have your own handy man to create the space for your canning and freezing.

I love your morning glory. Those always remind me of my grandmother, as they were one of her favorites.

  5. I burst out laughing when I saw your kitchen - it's those "walnut" cabinets that identify it's vintage. I had one just like it, and so did my daughter until her dh tore it apart and re-did it. I will, however, show her that appliance barn. Very clever. I love the morning glory - but my preference is "Heavenly Blue" from my childhood. They were in my grandparents' yard.

  6. Good job to your DH... yep we had a kitchen similar to yours. We live in a different house now... hmmm, 1980's... now it's the oak cabinets! Funny cause in years to come all the people from the years around 2000 will be pointing at the knotty alder!!! That's what is big here!
The morning glory are so sweet... this is going to be a great quilt when it's done... although it has wonderful aspects about it already.

  7. Great idea for the kitchen, very creative. The one I've inherited here(from 1950's, no nice period features, just old and yukky!)is to be pulled apart soon, for a new one.

The new flower, and your work are wonderful as always. Julesx

  8. Your 'master' carpenter did a great job of getting you more counter space. 70's kitchen? I'm ashamed to admit that I still have harvest gold counters. LOL

Love your new flower. Great use of the wire ribbon.

  11. Great storage solution. Our kitchen is from the 80s. I really wanted to remodel when I was in the bathroom at a local mexican restaurant and realized the bathroom was done in the same tile as my kitchen. And sadly it isnt a nice mexican colorful tile, but a basic brown with wheat motif. But it is usable so the grand kichen renovation keeps getting pushed further down the list.
    Love the flowers.

  12. I think we have the same breadbox *snicker and I can't figure out all those appliances but I'm glad you have more space for them.

And, the same thing happened to me...the minute I saw the morning glory...I thought "morning glory" -- I think that is success my dear...add it to the repertoire of Allie's Garden Made by Hand...
