Vintage CQ...Flower #7

Fitting the motif into the space is the biggest challenge of these little blocks.

I thought I would try something a little different this time....

....and have my flowers "hanging" from the top.
If I were to do this over (which I'm not), I would have moved the whole thing slightly down, as it seems a bit top heavy to me. But on the original quilt, the motifs aren't perfectly centered, either!

I have been piecing up a storm on the outer blocks...not quite ready to show that part yet as I have 4 more blocks to go.
But what the heck! We're all friends here....so welcome to my chaotic mess....

Eeek! Pretty pathetic, isn't it? Now you know!
It is hard to walk in here so I have to take a breather to clear things up....

  1. Yippee!! Nice to know your studio looks waaaay better than mine. Isn't it funny how we can work in chaos for quite awhile and then suddenly have to clean up before we can even think of doing anything more?

  3. I was just googling "oya" today to see if there are any videos, books, etc. to learn how to make flowers like that. I know it is becoming a lost art and I want to learn how!

  5. I must confess I'm jealous you even have a craft/sewing room! And WOW, you are whipping those gorgeous flowers out so fast!

  6. Love the new block. It's nice to see that other people are just chaotic as I am sometimes! :)

  7. Hey, I have a room just like that. Today I picked up the fabric bits from the floor and put some stacks of fabric in the closet because company was coming. But I confess that I reach a point where the chaos gets distracting too.

Your block is very pretty. Those petals are wonderful.

  8. This one is my favorite so far of your crazy quilt blocks. What technique are you using to make the petals of your flowers? I love the lacey appearance.

  10. I am so glad that i am not alone. When i get into a creative storm my space looks terrible. But your work is beautiful and worth all the temporary madness. I tell myself it can be cleaned later!

  11. Your space looks a lot like my "creative zone" when I'm putting things together! Nice to know I'm not alone!

  13. That is how I function. LOL Great beauty arises from chaos. I like the placement of the flower "hanging" on this one. If you had moved it down, it would have felt like it was sliding off the block, as it is "hanging" visually. It's great like it is, so stop fretting.

  14. I want to know how you managed not to have things piled high on the chair also...way too neat!! I love it when my DH leaves town and I can have the WHOLE house looking like that and just wander day and night from mess to mess... LOL

  15. I'm so glad to see that your studio can get as trashed as mine. Several of your studio shots always showed it so neat, with a nice cleared table and a lovely view.

  16. Yes, my studio looks like that, too sometimes. All the better to work in until that moment where I can't take it any more!

  17. I'm glad I'm not the only one willing to show my very messy sewing room on my blog.

I'm really enjoying seeing the different flower motifs on the star quilt.

  18. So what!!! As long as you know where things are... isn't that all that matters? LoL.... a long time ago a friend and I were talking about kids rooms (back when her oldest kids were in High School) and she told me that her oldest daughter's room was a total mess... all the time! She said,"the girls gets straight A's, president of her Seminary class (religious classes at school), in her Young Women's presendency, and doesn't do drugs! I think that I just need to learn to close the door"! And I learned that there are times we just need to choose our battles with the kids! So, I did! All the kids are married and will have hopefully learned this too!
I have to get to the point that I can't get anything done because it's too messy... b/4 I reclean it all! Such is life!
    Your side blocks are neat!

  19. Allie: I think I could go you one better, but am not in the mood to take a picture. I'm just climbing out of the 6 month slump/funk I've been in and I looked around in my studio today and was horrified. There are LAYERS! Why did I notice today? It's 104 degrees outside and I've a new fan but today it quit going back and forth and G says the instruction booklet is in here someplace.........still haven't found it!

  20. Oh wow, that mess is really impressive! I have downloaded the picture to show to my husband when he is whining again about my sewing stuff.
    Those flowerblocks are lovely.
