Vintage CQ...Flower #6

Many of my "old friends"--flowers from "Crazy for Flowers" and the "Spring CQ"--are showing up in these little blocks. I dug out some leftover fabric made of angelina fibers fused onto silk that went into the blue flax to make this little cachepot of posies.

I did take some time out from the flowers here to piece some of the blocks that are going to surround the center section of this quilt.
I just had to see how it was going to look!
While trying to capture the kind of "chunky" piecing, with large patches for motif embroidery, that is a feature of the vintage quilt, I did use quite contemporary colors. I'll show you that next time....

I do so love piecing...but my sewing room always looks like a bomb went off in there whenever I get going on it! That, I am not showing....

I pulled myself away to go out and harvest some ingredients for last night's dinner...

The New Zealand spinach has done well for us, not bolting in all our heat.
And how about that nice head of broccoli? Robert was so proud.....and wow is there more where that came from.
As for the raspberries...just a little half and half plus a tiny bit of sugar...so yummy!

  1. I really like these blocks! I think it's the isolation of the little motif that makes them so appealing.

  2. The texture in the green leaves is so wonderful. And the raspberries look delicious.

Piecing is also my favorite thing and I end up with so many tiny pieces and scraps (too small to use) all over the floor. I don't clean them up until I am done for the day, so until then, they just fall to the floor.

Rasberries with a little cream has to be one of the BEST ways to eat them! Yum! Lucky you to be growing your own! Gorgeous broccoli! too!

  5. Oh - yay for the berries! Ours are only in their second year so we may only get a few, but we'll see - so far lots of flowers.

  7. You among a fabric mess conjures a picture just as appealing as you among the wildflowers.

You are in quite the rhythm and this block lends some heart and soul to the beat. I think I hear the harmony now...can't wait to see the next one.

As for those raspberries...those are my faves!!

  8. What a nice variety of leaves you're using in this piece, and of course the flowers are beautiful.

Your real life garden must be lovely as well. Those berries look yummy.

  9. I love the design of your latest cq, and having the star vignettes of flowers is coming together beautifully.

I would love to have a garden surrounding our house. The weather in ND just doesnt always provide a long growing season. I am sure my neglected herb garden in the corner of our backyard is struggling to grow. Brant's sister lives in the Damascus OR area and has just a lovely garden of veggies, blueberries and raspberries.

  11. I find that some of my flowers make repeat appearances, too! It is sort of like a signature - something recognizable from piece to another that is yours.

I am jealous of your dinner - looks wonderful.

  14. Hi Allie, We just got home and are really enjoying the cool weather and lack of mosquitoes! Your latest project is terrific and will be fun to follow. I also enjoyed reading about the Cleveland quilt. At the UW hospital where we volunteer, art is used to help people find their way! I wonder if that pretty one is used that way in addition to pure enjoyment? Have a great day!

  15. My friend and I go walking every other day or so and we walk past a yard that has a nice raspberry patch. They are ripe to pick, I've threathened to go climb the fence and pick if they don't pick b/4 they fall to the ground! Can't stand to see they yummy berries go to waste! LoL.... love the raspberries! Your broc. looks wonderful! Nothing like fresh from the garden to help you feel like eating!
A neice called the other day and asked if I wanted to go with to pick cherries (pie) and I of course said yes! So, now I have to figure out what to do with them! I've never picked "pie cherries" b/4.... I mean I picked a huge 5 gallon bucket... guess I need to find a recipe to can them. Any idea's? Plus of course make a fresh pie!
I had to chuckle when you said you wouldn't show your "work space"!!! I can relate... anytime working in the sewing room is always an untidy time! Can't recall who, but someone once told me that if the room was a mess... I must have accomplished something! LoL.... just a fun time making a mess sometimes!

  17. Love these flowers! Are the petals made with Angelina? Even in the enlarged picture, I can't tell what you've used for the flower centers (beads?)... whatever it is they look great.

And so do your veggies and raspberries!

    Hugs, Robin

Good to see the vegetable garden is yielding so well-mine too. Tiny potatoes, broad and runner beans and baby peas for us tonight.
