It's foggy this morning....
I post this picture of my garden to illustrate again why leaves are so much on my brain these days.
In another month this scene will be so full of color...and that is when I will be putting those colors on my quilt, too....
Meanwhile, here is another set of leaves going on.
I painted some beige lace with Tsukineko inks, then fused it onto some commercial green batik with Misty Fuse. Then I just cut them out, freehand.
(Sorry the color is so different in these pictures.) Here they are pinned on to the lower left arc.
This is the lower right arc. Can you see how I am backstitching them on?
I tried using my needlepunch for this but it didn't like all those seam allowances and layers of fabric. Oh well....
Some of these leaves are following seams, and some are going "cross country" into the patches. All the seams will be covered, though. This is a crazy quilt, after all!
But my routine is going to be happily interrupted for the rest of the week-end. My dear friend Tracey Brookshier is bringing two of her friends to stay over the next four days...and we all are going to help Tracey with her first ever booth at Quilt Market at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. This is the same trade show I attended in Houston last fall, but this time I am not going as "media" for CQMagOnline but as an "exhibitor" under Tracey's umbrella. I will still have plenty of time to roam the aisles, and I hope to be able to report here on some of what I see. Check out the list of exhibitors...there should be plenty to take in!
I remember teaching color theory and asking the class "what color is green?" WOW that's gorgeous. Please say hello to our friend from Riversilks! I'm loving these leaves - but then I am such a leaf addict.
ReplyDeleteThe leaves look great, Allie! You've made so much progress during the 10 days we were in Chicago playing with our grandbabies. Quilts in Portland, eh? Wish I'd know of it sooner, but DH is running in Beat the Bridge on Sunday while I'm singing in choir....rats!~
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'm really enjoying watching this whole work progress. I have done crazy quilting in the past and still one every once in a great while. I love the combination of trims, embroidery, beadwork and the freedom to fill in the lines and spaces with whatever you can dream up.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful picture of your garden. It looks so peaceful. I see how it serves as inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYou do lovely work.

ReplyDeleteHello Allie, First I love your "Green" garden. Mine is the best ever this year and I believe it is because we had such a cold winter. Secondly, you are sooo creative. I had bought some Misty fuse and did not really how I would use it. Love your idea of painting the lace and fusing it to the Misty Fuse. I always learn when I come to visit you. VBG Have a great trip to Portland. Great Place and I look forward to hearing and seeing what new ideas you bring back. Judy
