for Reba and Vince

They are old friends of mine, and Reba is feeling poorly, so I thought I would send them a present.

This mounted block is about 7" X 8".
The fabric with the roses on the lace is a photo printed on cotton...actually, the hummingbirds are too.
I'm becoming more and more interested in the graphic quality and composition of my crazy quilting, rather than just over-the-top stitching. I'm trying to let print, texture, weave, balance, and contrast do a lot of my work for me. I must be getting lazy!

  1. Allie, that is such a sweet gift. I really like the effect on printing on fabric. You have used it to great advantage. Can't wait to give that a try.

  3. It is a lovely piece. I think you're doing a good thing by expanding your repetoire to include texture and images on fabric. This is helping to evolve to the art to the next level for the next generation.

  4. Very pretty! That should certainly lift their spirits. I wouldn't call your new idea lazy, just more creativity! How the weather you way? I am very tired of all the rain.

  6. Hi Allie, the shape of the birds is so elegant, the subdued embellishment seems perfect to me. Sometimes less is indeed more.

    I hope you're doing well.

  8. But you've always used those characteristics in your CQ - Maybe you just need a break from so much surface embellishing focus, although hopefully you'll get back to it - curved seams included.
