Now that the outer ring of flowers is done, I have been filling in all the seams between the patches in the blue/purple sections of the quilt.
I used very simple stitching and mostly tone on tone color...I didn't want too much busyness or contrast, as this crazy quilt is definitely about the flowers more than the seam treatments. But I still want it to conform to the parameters of CQ, so every seam must be covered.
I also used a line of the same thread and stitch in each of the four quadrants, when I could. While I am not going for symmetry, I do like the idea of some subtle repetition aiding in harmonizing the whole.
You can just barely see most of that seam stitching but when you see the quilt in "real life" the eye definitely registers it.
I haven't done anything with the seams between the blocks, and I probably won't. Don't want to emphasize them.
You can probably pick out a few of the seams that have been repeated in these two areas.
These kinds of compositional considerations are what make crazy quilting really fun for me!
Next I am going to cover all the seams here in the center "warm" section. These will be slightly bolder as there will be no flowers to compete with them. I've already gotten a start on this section but now I'm going to steamroll through the rest of it.
Then finally the center will come into my cross-hairs!
And the green corners will be last.....
