Adding the embellishments to a naked block is always so much fun.
Above is a detail shot of the center of the block...
...and an overall view. (Please pardon the pins.)
When it goes over foam core I should be able to get everything square and aligned right. It looks a bit crooked at the moment.
More stitching today...but tomorrow when the sun is supposed to finally show up, all bets are off!

I like the blue/brown color combination. I like how you have included a bit of everyone, your sons as well yourself. I made a quilt for Alex, that turned in to more of a quilt for me than him as it is a bit feminine. But I always think of him as I worked on it in the months leading up to his birth.
I hand pieced the quilt and I am still working on hand quilting. But I have not touched it in months. Too many other projects going.
Very nice, Allie. Were you still using waste canvas? I've also wondered what you're planning to do with the pretty butterflies your drop-in teacher made?
zowie! that is some very nice embellishment!
Oooh, this is lovely! Will we be seeing some beads on here?
Now this is different. I like the masculine/feminine contrasts--the "masculine" color scheme with the "feminine" lacey napkins and frames. And the symmetry! Very nice.
Da-yum... this is nice, Allie... like JoWynn sez, the contrasts are great... the masculine colors along with the feminine stitching. Verra nice!
Is this what you wanted the profile of Max for? Do you still need that picture?
Whenever I dream of my youngest son, he's still 5 years old. I did a thread painting of him from a photo at that age, & called it Missing My Baby. He's 31 now. Where does the time go?
This is a wonderful reminder for you of your boys. I love & understand the sentiments behind it completely.
I think your work is just stunning and very forward.
I'm learning to check your blog more often because you always get so much done!
Love the blues and browns! And the button in the middle is perfect.
Have a beautiful sunny weekend!
I like the way you've combined all your interests - the challenge, the embellisher, the hand stitching - all of it together. It's a very pretty block and wonderful seams for embellishing!
