I think I will call this, "I Remember 17". (When the bloom was on the rose.)
I appliqued some vintage millinary leaves onto the upper right corner....
...and used another of Pam Kellogg's charted leaf designs. The rest of the seams came together easily and then I was done.
Was I ever her, really?
Hi, I have been thinking about starting a crazy quilt. I love reading your blog you are so talented! I see that you had a post previously about crazy quilt kits. Do you still make them and sell them? I am just stumped as to how to get started and thought maybe a kit would be the way? Or maybe you have some advise as to how to start? I would appreciate any advise you may have. I have several crazy quilt books and embroidery books BTW and I am already a quilter so I think it shouldn't be to big of a deal for me to start one. Rebecca in AZ clouseta@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteWhat a great piece! I really love those vintage leaves. I taught a beginner sewing class yesterday and one of the students is 11. We were talking about vintage trims. She asked what vintage meant. We explained. She said "oh, I though vintage was the 1980's"!
ReplyDeleteIt's all about point of reference. Love your photo too.
This is beautiful - you do the most gorgeous inspiartional work
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and personal! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteBut of course you're still her!! Still beautiful - but the dew may be gone, and the rose in full bloom now. In my case, the petals are falling fast. The finished piece is lovely, as usual.
ReplyDeleteAllie,
ReplyDeleteYou're still her...
There is old saying here. We say "like old wine" for the nice, charming ladies to define their beauty:))
Love,
Rengin
I agree with the other posters, you are still her, I don't think that we ever lose our earlier selves, maybe hid them, but lose them never. I like you TIF.
ReplyDeletestill her, but smarter, stronger, tested and burnished by time...
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely piece! Your photo is so sweet, and I definitely see you in both photos!
ReplyDeleteYour stitching is exquisite!
Your work is amazing! I love this piece. I find when I look back to 17, that I was just beginning to date my husband and it was a nice time, but I wouldn't trade anything to go back in time. I am much wiser now and can enjoy the memories. All I wanted to do at 17 was get older.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo. I see the likeness to the image you chose, so that's a wonderful personal touch. Every part of your piece is really inspired.
ReplyDeleteI think we all have that girl inside us still. I like it when I feel my young wild self once in awhile. It makes me feel good to remember that vigor and vitaliity, and that daring, though being older and experienced is another kind of strength.
What a beauty! The little rose buds I like the most, how do you make them? or are they ready made? Beautiful piece.
ReplyDeleteI love your piece, and especially your picture!
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely, lovely! Especially those sweet dyed ribbon rosebuds.
ReplyDeleteOf course you are still her, but with so much greater depth. Truly beautiful. And the embroidery is pretty good too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my blog. I have gone through your blog and I am in total awe of your talent, your stitching, your color sense, everything. I am glad I found your blog!
ReplyDeleteoh my how beautiful. I love the concept and the outcome.
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious 17 year old girl! I still think you look the same with "a little burnishing" (what a great phrase). Your piece is so beautifully done, as always. Don't I wish my hands would cooperate with me so I could make some of those wonderful embellishments.
ReplyDeleteYour piece is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnd sure you are still her. What amazes me in your earlier picture is your hands. They look kind of mature and full of strength.
I have had you on my blogroll for a very long time. I come and visit from time to time, but in all honesty, not everyday. You see, I used to embroider all the time, and it is SO tempting for me to begin again; especially when I see something as this.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, decadent even. And yes tempting. There is that little voice that says: "Certainly you can forgo the world and slip back into my habit! Such a reward for your time!"
Sorry to blather on, but really, why must you tempt me so?
What a beautiful flower girl you were! The promise so noticeable in the rosebud at 17 has blossomed into the full bloom of a singularly wonderful rose, dear Allie. You have so captured the wonder of your 17 year old self in this piece. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful in every detail!
ReplyDeleteYou block just great. And stitches bring me try turn for CQ block all my Ukranian patterns for veste canvas.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you still interesting I put on my blog tutorials for leaves without fabric. I do them a lot from different treads and yarns. It's bring a great 3D effect.
The colors on the velvet leaves are perfect for this piece! It all came together so nice, the leaves, the rose buds, the picture... and you were a pretty rose bud at 17!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely. And when I saw the picture of you and thought of how you resemble that Botticelli, I had to smile.
ReplyDeleteVery very pretty piece. Oh the times that are gone and our youth with them but I for one am loving the time I am in now too.
ReplyDeleteI often ask myself that question. 17 was so long ago. =) This is a wonderful challenge piece, just beautiful. It was fun to see Pam's seam on a different piece, in different color, by a different stitcher.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece. Nice work on your blog. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am mesmerized by your use of stitch and quilting. I am an art quilter and desperately want to expand my horizons to hand stitching (I primarily use machine) as it adds such a "personal" touch and great depth to textiles. I just bought myself an "embroidery stitch dictionary" and will be embarking on this journey. Your work is lovely. But I have to say - that "girl" in the black and photo - is a stunner. What a beautiful photograph!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry if I am going over the same things of the other posts, but I must say "awhhh" to the sweet photo of you when you were a teen! I'm sure that your caption got alot of women ( including me) wondering about where their 17 year old self is.. LOL Love your Feb piece...
ReplyDeleteLovely and very nostalgic. Makes us all think back to 17.
ReplyDeleteFinally getting around to looking at all of Feb's tif. Your piece is beautiful and I am glad you added the detail pictures because then you get to see all the beautiful work that has gone into this tiny square which could be lost in the bigger picture.
