Embroidered Cottage Portrait

Thank you all for your very sweet comments on my TIF for January. You are so encouraging!
In answer to Judith's question, yes, I did have those goals for the challenge in mind that I stated in my last post.

I'm now embarked on a little project that will be a birthday gift for my dear cousin Carol. She and her brother are the owners of the old family cottage now, and she graciously hosts me there on the banks of Lake Michigan for a week every summer. I thought this would be a nice way to let her know how much she means to me.

There are a few hours' stitching on here at this point...
Can you see where the oval shape is marked in pencil? I want to make a little crazy pieced frame around the central picture once it is all embroidered.
But I've only got until Monday to get the whole thing completely finished and mailed...so I'd better keep my needle in gear!

What an heirloom to go with the cottage - she'll treasure it!

I like the 3d effect the stitches give the picture!

Question: is the picture printed with an ink jet? I'm curious about the effects of printer ink over time. Does the ink jet ink fade? I've certainly seen it fade on photos, especially if exposed to the sun. But I've never seen it fade on regular documents (that don't get much exposure to anything). Any ideas on how long that kind of ink lasts on fabric, even when printed on treated fabric? In fact, that's another aspect to the question - does a fabric treatment (like bubble jet set, or similar products) make the ink jet ink permanent?

Sorry for the looooong question - just curious about that, since I see computer printed graphics in crazy quilting quite often.

Anyway - it's really pretty! And a super-nice gift!

Oh, this is so interesting! And so beautiful! So many fun things to try and only 24 hours in a day. Wish I didn't need sleep!

I do see the oval and that will give it such a traditional, antique look - it seems to me all the older generation in my family had oval framed pictures of houses and ancestors.
